How

Each carpet is cut and assembled by hand from fabric scraps. The individual elements must be perfectly coordinated in order to be fused together in the following step using a special felting technique in Italy.

Depending on iahnak’s design philosophy, the works receive the special finishing touches by hand in the Chiemgau studio. Yarn, spray, stitch and needle turn the carpets into exceptionally beautiful and individually aesthetic pieces of wall art. They are mostly produced using the punching process, a rare technique where the materials are worked into each other with the help of small needles.

Each wall art needs to be felted once or twice depending on the design and layers of fabric. This one-of-a-kind piece is then hand finished by adding stripes, yarns and surfaces to the art.

The Idea

iahnak is the instinctive brainchild of globally renowned architect and artist Kanhai Gandhi (CoFounder, KNS Architects, India) whose emotive art in the form of sketches and doodles, on paper and digital, and photographs form the foundation of over 10 alluring art creations that he has crafted for the collaboration with LPJ Studios for to bring to each one to life.

Every design style is unique and experimental. Kanhai believes that humans are a part of nature, not apart from nature, and it is the work of nature to create and that the world is full of extraordinary patterns, essentially waiting to be captured and eternalized in time.

LPJ Studios is an internationally known sustainable design studio from Bavaria (Germany), that came into existence out of the love and passion to create extraordinary designs with new approaches that centre around the use of fabric scraps. Just as everything is energy and is transferable; so were the fabric scraps used that were transformed into extremely exclusive pieces available.
